Platelet Rich Plasma

More info on

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, is an all-natural, cutting edge treatment option for treating balding or pattern-hair loss in St. Louis.

Why PRP?

Your own body makes platelets that carry many growth factors used in tissue and wound healing.  So there’s no chance for rejection of the cells, because they are YOURS!

The growth factors in these platelets are signals that tell the surrounding cells to divide and multiply- which is valuable in tissue regeneration and hair growth.  When we use PRP, we are harnessing these growth factors, amplifying them, and using them to treat various dermatology conditions.

How is PRP collected and used in treatment?

1)    We draw your own blood in clinic into a few test tubes. These are then put into a centrifuge and spun for several minutes. This separates the platelets from the red blood cells.

2)    While the blood is spinning, the doctor will numb up your scalp, so you won’t feel any discomfort from the injections.

3)  After the centrifuge is finished spinning, we isolate the platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, and then inject it into the balding areas of the scalp.

How long does it take?

Typically, the entire visit takes 35-45 minutes.

Is it just 1 treatment or multiple treatments?

The research tells us that patients see the most benefit after 4 treatments, each spaced out 1 month apart.  After that, PRP should be injected as maintenance therapy every 6 months.

Will I have any downtime?

No. We do ask that you avoid taking medications that can thin your blood – such as Ibuprofen, Advil, Aleve, Aspirin, etc. for the next 1 week.

As a premier dermatology service in St. Louis, we care for patients with both cosmetic and general dermatology concerns.
